About Kit's Big Ideas
Kit's Big Ideas is a 40-book children's library that grows with one child from age 2 to age 8. It is built from a patent attorney's classroom and patent practice. Three age-tiered series follow the same inventor, Kit, through six years of growing up:
- Kit's Little Sparks (ages 2 to 4): twenty STEM picture books on the inventor's mindset, walking a toddler through five gentle phases of curiosity, making, sharing, growing, and becoming.
- Kit's Inventor Workshop (ages 4 to 6): ten picture books on the four pillars of intellectual property at a kid's level: trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets, taught as collaborative play.
- The Inventor's Journal (ages 6 to 8): ten chapter books written as a real inventor's journal, with sketches, false starts, and breakthroughs, the same kind real inventors at the patent office have kept for centuries.
Every book in Kit's Big Ideas is written by Chris Kuczynski, a USPTO-registered patent attorney and preschool co-founder with 30 years of experience working with inventors. Chris co-founded Gratitude Garden Preschool and TESLA Country Day, where many of these books were inspired. He runs the publishing studio Little Sparks Books.
The full library spans ages 2 to 8. Series 1 (Kit's Little Sparks) is for ages 2 to 4 and is the only series shipping today. Series 2 (Kit's Inventor Workshop) is being written for ages 4 to 6. Series 3 (The Inventor's Journal) is being written for ages 6 to 8. A child who starts at age 2 with Series 1 grows into the next series the year they outgrow the last. Same Kit. Same vocabulary. Each book picks up where the last one left off.
Both. They are storybooks first, with a real plot, a growing cast of friends, and watercolor illustrations on every spread. The STEM content is woven into Kit's choices, not lectured. Toddlers learn to think like an inventor by watching Kit notice, wonder, try, fail, share, and try again. The books also map cleanly to the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices that Pre-K through 2nd grade educators use, so they double as a curriculum support.
