Did Kit copy Grandma's flower pot stand?

Kit looks at his Steady Sippy and then at Grandma's flower pot stand. They both have a wide base for balance. Kit worries. Is that copying?

Sparks takes Kit through a magical garden gate to meet Bloom, a tiny sprite made of flower petals with dandelion hair that glows green when she is curious and pink when she is excited. Bloom shows Kit a sunflower and asks, "Does it make you think of something?" Kit says, "A pinwheel?" Bloom cheers. That is exactly what being inspired means.

A bird inspired the airplane. A fish inspired the submarine. Nature gives us shapes and ideas, and our imaginations turn them into inventions. But there is an important difference. Copying means taking the exact same thing. Inspiration means creating something completely different. Kit looks at Grandma's flower pot stand again. Same shape? A little. Same thing? Not at all. Kit was inspired. And that is something to be proud of.

This is one of the most important distinctions in intellectual property, and one that even adults sometimes struggle with. The book draws the line clearly through visuals that toddlers can understand.
