The story. Everyone sees Kit's friend Milo dragging a big box down the sidewalk. Kit notices the drawing taped to it: a cardboard ROBOT with a head, arms and a button, too big for one kid to build. In Kit's garage, Sparks, the tiny fairy of gears and light, tells them to work TOGETHER. Kit has the tape and Milo has the plan, so this will be EASY. It is not: Kit wants it THIS way, Milo wants it THAT way, they pull one cardboard tube until it rips, and the robot goes THUD. After one breath they find the trade, Milo thinks and Kit builds, the robot stands, Milo presses the button, and it WAVES. Kit's little sister Mia waves back, and the waving could go on all day.

How you read it. Your child claps three times with you or a friend, because a clap is what wakes Sparks. Your child shouts "MY way!" like Kit and "MY way!" like Milo. Your child pulls the pretend cardboard tube until it rips. When you ask "Does the robot stand?" your child shouts "NO!" and pats the floor, THUD. Then one breath together, in and out, and the answer turns into "YES!" Your child says "OUR way!" with Kit and Milo, waves back at the robot, and says "WE made that!" The story runs about five minutes aloud. After it comes a short talk page for the two of you, with one question to ask and one line to say together.

Kit's friend drew a cardboard robot too big for one kid. The next step is building it together. Most of us have refereed MY way against MY way.
